If you don’t know my friend Natalie Weakly, you should. She’s an image and brand consultant and she loves making people look good. Natalie is often a featured guest on Great Day Houston, giving Houstonians tips on all kinds of fashion solutions. (You may remember her recent segment on scarf styling I featured on the blog.) Natalie is also pregnant (and due just 10 days before me – how fun is that?!) so it makes sense that they asked her to do a segment on maternity fashion. And when she needed “models” I was thrilled to do it. It wasn’t my first debut on a television news segment, but it was just as fun as the first time! (more…)
Yesterday, I wrote about the Pantone “Color of the Year” for 2014…the lovely radiant orchid. Pantone has also release in its Fashion Color Report for Spring nine other colors in the palette that they have seen designers using for their Spring collections. I really love the colors and am hoping to incorporate some more of these bright, breezy colors into my Spring wardrobe in a few pieces. (more…)
You’ve probably heard by now that the “Color of the Year” for 2014 according to Pantone, is Radiant Orchid. A lovely shade of purple with fuchsia and pink undertones, I absolutely LOVE the color…except that I don’t actually own anything in it (unless you count an actual orchid, and if you do, then SCORE!) I adore orchids, don’t you? They’re so stately and add such a lovely pop of color (or an elegant stark white) to a room. And unlike cut flowers, they last for SO long! I’ve even been successful in getting them to re-bloom, which I thought was always a bit of a wives’ tale, but if you’re patient with them, they will bloom again for you. And they have such incredibly unique shapes and color markings. Truly gorgeous. But, I digress. (more…)
I stumbled upon Michaela Warner’s blog a year or so ago and was immediately drawn in by her lovely photos. (Isn’t that one of the best parts of a good blog? I think it is!) She is starting out as an interior designer and has a fabulous sense of style and also knows how to work on a budget. That’s a rare combination, but she’s got it! I love, love, love perusing the photos on her blog and I’m usually inspired by them. She has fabulous ideas for home design, closet style and party planning that I’m sure you’ll love. I reached out to her after reading her blog for a while and we became fast friends. As it turns out, we have a lot in common – it really is such a small world! So, I asked her to do a guest blog post for me and here she is!
We met over bongo drums. In a loud room with crazy music and a symphony of voices singing loudly, as we sat in a circle banging on drums, we smiled at one another. It was one of those knowing smiles that mothers give one another as they are doing something for their kid’s sake – something like Music Together. Oh, it’s fun, don’t get me wrong, but it’s a bit of a sacrifice as well some mornings when you’re over tired and feigning a smile through yet another rendition of “Tingalayo.” Kim is absolutely precious, though, and so is her son Hugo (this kid is going to be SUCH a lady-killer!) and we became fast friends. Kim is an artist, though at the time, she hadn’t really taken her business full-scale. We had many chats over coffee about life with a toddler, navigating San Francisco as a mom and being an entrepreneur. Every single time I left Kim’s presence, I felt sunnier in spirit and more optimistic and upbeat than I had going into the conversation. (more…)
I met Amy Kirschbaum through a friend shortly after I moved to San Francisco over four years ago. I was invited to join the San Francisco Women’s Club and Amy was a member. She is absolutely darling and one of those incredibly friendly, very down-to-earth people that you absolutely LOVE talking to. She’s gorgeous and genuine, funny and a great listener. She’s the whole package. When I found out that she is also an entrepreneur and a mom, I knew I had found a soulmate. In the past four years, Amy and I have grown to be close friends and coffee with her is one of my favorite times. I know you’ll love what she has to say about developing your personal brand. (more…)
Here in San Francisco, I wear a scarf pretty much every day. Even if I don’t leave the house wearing one, I always throw one in my bag. The weather can vary SO much here from hour to hour – and from neighborhood to neighborhood. If you’re going to be out for the day or are trekking around the city, you definitely need layers. You never know what you’ll encounter out there and since it is such a walking city, you’re bound to be out in the elements a lot. I find a scarf really warms you up when you’re chilly and is easy to take off if you get too hot. Plus, it is easy to stuff in your purse, which can’t be said for a coat! I always take one with me when I travel as well. They’re fantastic for the plane, a random chilly restaurant or a blustery day. Scarves are one of my very favorite accessories! (more…)
Do you have one of those impossibly chic friends? You know the one I’m talking about. Every time you see her, she looks incredibly well put together, but amazingly with almost no effort at all? She just exudes that Parisian chic that we all drool over – she radiates effortless elegance. She’s the girl that you’d love to hate if she weren’t so sweet. Well, I have a few of those friends and one of them is Alexandra Knight. We were introduced by a mutual friend (who, incidentally, is also darling and also someone you need to know!) and hit it off right away. We had an immediate connection as female entrepreneurs and not only because I was, of course, drooling over her luxury handbags. They. Are. Exquisite! (more…)
One of my friends I’ll be introducing you to in a few weeks is Paul Hotze, who co-founded the fabulous Paris Texas Apparel Co with his brother, Patrick. I’ve known Paul pretty much my entire life (like, I literally cannot remember not knowing him) and one thing is consistent about him (other than the fact that he’s a really nice guy) – he can always make you laugh. He’s got a real talent for it…and apparently, also for designing cool ties.
We’ll chat more with Paul on our blog soon, because he is definitely a friend that you should know, but for now, I didn’t want you to miss this super cute video he made. Paul is the jogger in the video and no, he doesn’t always dress like that (but it’s also not entirely out of the ordinary, either…) (more…)
