Men’s Style: A Great Gift Idea

IMG_1558

I always have a hard time thinking of good gift ideas for my husband. He’s a tough guy to shop for, not because he is picky or doesn’t usually like what I get him, but because he’s a man who doesn’t need much. He rarely asks for things, but he is a guy who really appreciates good craftsmanship, so when I can find something that is really well made, I know I’ve found something he will likely love. Whether it is a handmade pair of cowboy boots, a custom made button down shirt or a piece of jewelry that I handmade for him, I know he appreciates solid craftsmanship and good design.

As soon as he opened the gorgeous wooden box of his JORD men’s watch, I saw that smile that let me know I had chosen well. The grain of the dark sandalwood glimmered in the sunlight and contrasted beautifully with the burgundy face. He carefully took it out of the box and examined it closely and proclaimed it a win – he loved it! Neither of us had ever seen a wooden watch before, so I love that it is a unique watch style. In person, it is so, so beautiful. You can instantly tell that it is carefully crafted and I love the earthy feel of the wood and it’s just plain stylish!

Since he got it, hubs has worn it with casual clothes and dressy ones and it looks great with each. He’s gotten lots of compliments on this cool watch and people are thrilled to know that is also has a great price point. I have a feeling he’s going to be wearing it a lot this Spring (and I have a feeling I may be swiping it from him to wear myself!)

If you’re in the market for a great gift idea for the man in your life, I highly recommend you checking out the line of lovely wooden watches Jord has for men here. Jord also has gorgeous women’s watches as well. I personally LOVE the Frankie line of women’s watches. I love the oversized look and the face is so clean and pretty.

Are you loving these wooden watches as much as I am? Good news! JORD is doing a fun giveaway for my readers. All you have to do is click on this link and enter your name and email address. The winner will receive a $100 E Gift Code. All entrants receive a $25 E Gift Code, so everyone is a winner! Our Favorite Shoes

Native

As a boy mom, I spend far too much time (and money!) on shoes. These boys grow so fast! We’ve gone through so many different brands and styles and have loved some and hated others (and loved a few styles, but hated the quality of them.) I think we’ve finally found our favorite shoes – and we get TONS of compliments on them!

They’re made by Native Shoes and they are absolutely adorable. They look like boat shoes, but are completely made of rubber, which means they hose down easily after a day at the beach, or digging in the dirt. And they come in so many cute colors! Each of my boys has several pair in various colors, because we wear them so often. They look just as good at the beach as they do in pajamas (see below) or going to church! They’re comfortable, breathable and easy to clean (which is key for a boy mom.)

Every time my boys wear them, we get compliments on them and I’m constantly telling people where to get them, since we mamas need to help one another out. And who has time to research cute kids’ shoes all the time? Not me! We’ve bought some on Zappos, which is my go-to for my kids’ shoe shopping, since they’re returns are SO easy and you have 365 days to do it. Shout out to them for such amazing customer service! You can also get them on the Native Shoes website if you’d like different color/size options.

They look awesome with Christmas pajamas, right? Shown here on our recent trip to Lost Pines Resort. Read more about our fun trip here.

And they’re even precious with dressy clothes on, making them super versatile!

Shoe Love

I’ve been getting tons of compliments on these cutout ankle booties, so I just had to share them with y’all.

These little gems are super cute. I’ve been wearing them with cropped jeans, shorts and even skirts and getting loads of compliments on them. The cutouts ensure they aren’t too hot for Summer and the short heels ensure they’re super comfortable. (That’s a must for me these days, chasing three little boys around. I have to be quick on my feet!)

To make your shopping life easier, I’ve linked to a few spots where you can grab a pair here. They come in lots of colors and I’m seriously considering adding this cool black suede pair with white stitching. Love!

How would you style these booties? Tell us in the comments below. We love shared style tips!

New Kicks

IMG_8756

I recently got some new kicks and I am loving them! I’ve always found it hard to find black tennis shoes that I like that work well for casual wear. I love the fact that these are a mix of suede and a textured leather. The contrast adds interest and gives them a hip look that I think goes well with both yoga pants (my uniform of late) and jeans (when I want to look a little more put together without actually doing much more work!)

These Nikes are comfortable and cute, which is a huge win in my book. And they’re not too bulky, so they don’t give a “running shoe” look, which I like for a slightly more pulled-together style while running about town. And they are perfect for wearing when you’re chasing littles around the yard or playground. If you’d like to check them out, you can find them here. I highly recommend them!

The Blues of Bodega Bay

BodegaBayWording

On the Sonoma Coast of California sits the enchanting Bodega Bay where the sandy beaches are met with a beautiful rocky coastline. Tide pools abound, surfers congregate and whales can be spotted migrating through the area. This is the perfect place for a romantic getaway where you can relax on the beaches in the evening, listening to the waves crash, sipping the new wine you discovered during the day in Sonoma.

This collection was inspired by the wide spectrum of blue shades in Bodega Bay. From the coastal skies on a grey, overcast day to the clear blue sky on a bright, sunny day at the beach, luxurious London blue topaz and beautiful Swiss blue topaz abound. Like the Pacific ocean waves, seafoam-colored Peruvian opal splashes up against the shimmering grey of pyrite. Brushed gold vermeil and white freshwater pearls add a sophisticated coolness. Serenity is the overarching theme of this collection and upscale gemstones bring richness and a chic feel to the nature-inspired designs.

I hope that you love it as much as I do!

As one of the featured designers at the recent Culture Map Holiday Pop Up Shop on Sunday at Silver Street Studios, I was asked to do an Instagram Takeover of their account for a day.  It was my first takeover and it was so much fun!  In case you missed the posts, I wanted to share them here – with links to make it easier on you to find just what you’re looking for!

Introducing our Mixed Metals Collection

Contrast. It’s one of the keys to stand-out style. Velvet with jeans, lace with leather, gold with oxidized silver – opposites that look incredible when put together. In our latest collection, we are all about the contrast. We’re in love with the look of matte gold with shiny black and of hammered sterling with 24k gold.

New designs have been added to the website this week, so take a look around, think contrast, mix and match…and have fun!

It’s Boots and Bling…

cactus_blog

It’s almost Rodeo Time and I couldn’t be more excited!  Having lived in California for the past five years, I’ve missed out on this grand Houston tradition for quite some time now and I’m thrilled to be back for it and to show my little guys the fun Texas heritage that the rodeo represents.  Of course, if you’re heading to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, this is the time to plan your outfit.  It’s time to break out your boots and hat!  (Because no, we don’t all wear them year-round. Well, not the hats anyway.) (more…)
