Save the date to join us at the Spring Thing Market at Chapelwood United Methodist Church next week. We absolutely LOVE doing this show. We’ve done this one for about eight years or more now and we love it every single year. It is so fun to connect with friends and long-time customers and we love the other vendors, too! Everyone is so sweet and brings such lovely things to sell. (The shopping is one of our favorite parts of markets!)
Brookwood Community always comes with their amazing plants and garden pieces. They have super deals on plants and arrangements (always love a bargain) that are so beautiful AND the sales benefit this amazing community that provides an educational environment that creates meaningful jobs, builds a sense of belonging and demands dignity and respect for adults with disabilities. We’ve still got rodeo fever here in Texas, as things are just getting under way for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. This past weekend was the Bar-B-Que Cookoff and today starts the official concert lineup. Fun times!
Last week, we talked about how to complete your rodeo-ready outfit (or any outfit, really) with a pair of statement earrings and a cool bracelet or better yet, a stack of them! While a stack of arm candy is definitely one of the hottest trends right now, so is layering necklaces. People often ask me exactly how to go about layering and I guess that it can be a little tricky if you’re new to it. It gives such a great look, though, so its definitely worth trying out. (more…)
It’s almost Rodeo Time and I couldn’t be more excited! Having lived in California for the past five years, I’ve missed out on this grand Houston tradition for quite some time now and I’m thrilled to be back for it and to show my little guys the fun Texas heritage that the rodeo represents. Of course, if you’re heading to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, this is the time to plan your outfit. It’s time to break out your boots and hat! (Because no, we don’t all wear them year-round. Well, not the hats anyway.) (more…)
Well, it’s almost here. Rodeo is just about everyone’s favorite time in Houston. For nearly a month each year, Houston takes on the persona that the rest of the country assumes about Texas most of the time. Having grown up here, I assure you that I’ve been asked more than once when traveling whether or not I own an oil derrick or rode a horse to school. Thank you, Dallas. (The TV show, not the city.) Once, while traveling in Indonesia, someone even asked me if I knew J.R. Ewing. (I didn’t.) But, once a year, the fourth largest city in the U.S. goes back to its Texas roots – and its a LOT of fun! If you don’t know my friend Natalie Weakly, you should. She’s an image and brand consultant and she loves making people look good. Natalie is often a featured guest on Great Day Houston, giving Houstonians tips on all kinds of fashion solutions. (You may remember her recent segment on scarf styling I featured on the blog.) Natalie is also pregnant (and due just 10 days before me – how fun is that?!) so it makes sense that they asked her to do a segment on maternity fashion. And when she needed “models” I was thrilled to do it. It wasn’t my first debut on a television news segment, but it was just as fun as the first time! (more…)

We had so much fun at Langford Market’s West Ave flagship location today! They girls who work in there are absolutely adorable and are so, so sweet and helpful. You should definitely stop in and check the place out. The decor and ambiance in the store offer a lovely aesthetic in which to shop and the clothes are really well-priced and offer on-trend colors and styles. Their jewelry isn’t at all my style, but their clothes are really cute! And maybe that’s why they asked me to come in and do a trunk show – to offer a slightly more dainty option. The customers were all very kind and excited to try on a more dainty look and find some things to layer with items they already had. A win-win! (more…)
We spotted a few Andrea Montgomery Designs pieces on Great Day Houston the other day! Houston stylist Natalie Weakly of Signature Style was wearing them on her “Scarf-tastic” feature on the show. We all know how much I love winter’s best accessory, and Natalie had some great ideas on tying scarves and on using them as outfit accessories. While telling the Houston audience all of her tips and tricks on scarves, Natalie was wearing our matte gold vermeil large link bracelet AND our brushed gold vermeil peony necklace. (more…)
Tonight, the fam packed up and headed to The Houstonian hotel for some hot chocolate by their giant fireplace. They have huge gingerbread houses surrounding the top of it with a train that drives around them, so we knew that would be a huge hit with the boys. (We weren’t mistaken on that one.) It was so much fun to sit by a roaring fire, sipping on hot chocolate, while the boys ran around and marveled at the train. The Houstonian’s decorations are absolutely stunning and put us all in the holiday spirit, for sure. (more…)
On Friday night, we packed up the fam in warm clothes and a little rain gear and met some dear friends at the Houston Zoo for their holiday Zoo Lights event. Each evening through January 4th (except December 24th and 25th) from 6pm to 10pm, the Zoo opens up to show off the 1 million holiday lights they’ve put up all over the grounds. You can grab a cup of hot chocolate and wander through the old oak trees in the zoo, listening to holiday music and checking out the beautiful light displays. There’s even a cool map to guide you through, with descriptions and photos on the Houston Zoo app, which I downloaded on iTunes for free before we went. Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 at the door and kids under two are free. There are food and snacks throughout the zoo as well. (more…)
