Houston-based stylist Natalie Weakly knows trends. In fact, she makes it her business to know them. And even better, to help you know them – and how they best work for you. You may remember her from our “Friend Friday” post about her. Natalie loves clothes and jewelry (especially ours – she’s got great taste, right?) but what she’s passionate about is helping you find the clothes and jewelry that work for your look and lifestyle. A self-proclaimed “color obsessed” gal, she has expert opinions on what colors look great – from your closet to your logo to your living room walls.
Today’s friend that you need to know about is JennaDee Detro. In addition to being a fabulous mother, darling friend and a talented photographer, she’s now launched a family company that produces tea right here in Texas! She’s a really fun girl and I just know you’re going to love her, so without further adieu, here is JennaDee…
I’ve known Andrea for years, having both grown up in Houston. We chatted often about running our own small businesses (her amazing jewelry and my photography company – studiodetro.com) and later corresponded via email about full time motherhood and small business ownership. Not surprisingly, I’ve met some fabulous clients and friends compliments of Andrea’s amazing networking skills. (more…)
Look at that precious little face above! Isn’t he darling? That’s my friend Gus’ son and he is just as precious in person as he is in that adorable photograph. He’s a lucky little boy because his dad is an expert photographer, so he’s going to have loads of photos that are just as cute as this one. What a well-documented life this little guy will have! Gus is a dear friend of ours from our church in San Francisco, Reality, and has photographed our family numerous times – from baby photos of our first son to the birth of our second son to birthday parties and holiday cards in between, we LOVE having Gus photograph our family. In fact, you’ll see some of the ones he has taken of us in the full post! I’m always a little overwhelmed by the process of coordinating outfits for all four of us that blend well in color, but aren’t too matchy-matchy and in picking a cool location for our photos and getting the littles’ naps and meals coordinated just right so that he has happy and well-rested subjects to shoot. I stumbled upon Michaela Warner’s blog a year or so ago and was immediately drawn in by her lovely photos. (Isn’t that one of the best parts of a good blog? I think it is!) She is starting out as an interior designer and has a fabulous sense of style and also knows how to work on a budget. That’s a rare combination, but she’s got it! I love, love, love perusing the photos on her blog and I’m usually inspired by them. She has fabulous ideas for home design, closet style and party planning that I’m sure you’ll love. I reached out to her after reading her blog for a while and we became fast friends. As it turns out, we have a lot in common – it really is such a small world! So, I asked her to do a guest blog post for me and here she is!
Today is a guest blog post by my friend Bethany Factor. She’s one incredible and creative mama and she has some fabulously fun ideas to share and a great perspective-altering video as well…
Bethany is a mom of four kids 5 years old and younger. She recently launched a website called ThumbWar to help make you a better mother, father, spouse and employee. Her website is the perfect combination of personal assistant and best friend. She has created Houston’s largest parent rated activity and camp network. ThumbWar “battles boredom.” She is currently working on adding Houston’s largest parent rated pediatrician and pediatric dentist network. She is always interested in franchisees as well. (more…)
Amy Forbes Winebright is a good friend of mine from college. Actually, both she and her husband Matt are both my friends from college. Isn’t that fun? They now live in Austin where she’s an amazing mom AND a talented photographer. Her company is called Photobrights and her photography is fantastic. In today’s post, Amy is going to share with us what her top “pet peevees” are as a photographer. (Don’t worry – really, they’re just tips on how to get the best photos taken.) (more…)
We met over bongo drums. In a loud room with crazy music and a symphony of voices singing loudly, as we sat in a circle banging on drums, we smiled at one another. It was one of those knowing smiles that mothers give one another as they are doing something for their kid’s sake – something like Music Together. Oh, it’s fun, don’t get me wrong, but it’s a bit of a sacrifice as well some mornings when you’re over tired and feigning a smile through yet another rendition of “Tingalayo.” Kim is absolutely precious, though, and so is her son Hugo (this kid is going to be SUCH a lady-killer!) and we became fast friends. Kim is an artist, though at the time, she hadn’t really taken her business full-scale. We had many chats over coffee about life with a toddler, navigating San Francisco as a mom and being an entrepreneur. Every single time I left Kim’s presence, I felt sunnier in spirit and more optimistic and upbeat than I had going into the conversation. (more…)
I met Amy Kirschbaum through a friend shortly after I moved to San Francisco over four years ago. I was invited to join the San Francisco Women’s Club and Amy was a member. She is absolutely darling and one of those incredibly friendly, very down-to-earth people that you absolutely LOVE talking to. She’s gorgeous and genuine, funny and a great listener. She’s the whole package. When I found out that she is also an entrepreneur and a mom, I knew I had found a soulmate. In the past four years, Amy and I have grown to be close friends and coffee with her is one of my favorite times. I know you’ll love what she has to say about developing your personal brand. (more…)
I met my talented friend Andrea in 2009 at a Membership Drive for a young professionals group called YTAC (Young Texans Against Cancer). The group raises money for local cancer charities focusing on research, support and education that don’t have their own fundraising arm and Andrea encouraged me to join. At the time, I had just launched my public relations company, Kenektid. I became a member and went on to become the Social Chair on the Board of Directors. Andrea and I became fast friends and I am proud to have such a talented friend who is both an amazing businesswoman and supermom all in one! (more…)
Seriously, how cute is my friend Stephanie (above?) I love this girl. She is absolutely just as sweet as she is cute. And she’s just as amazing at throwing parties as she is sweet. Stephanie runs Stephanie Larson Events, an event planning business here in San Francisco. Her company provides boutique wedding planning & coordination services in the San Francisco Bay Area. I’ve been fortunate enough to attend a few parties that Stephanie planned and let me just tell you, it was like a Pinterest board came to life. This girl has talent! One such event was our friends Brian and Mina’s wedding. It was held at Rome Valley Vineyards in Garden Valley, California and it was spectacular (not to mention a TON of fun.) Brian and Mina incorporated so many fun things into their special day, as you can tell from the gorgeous photos on Stephanie’s blog post. (Sidenote – the photographer is also a friend of mine and you’ll be meeting him in a few weeks as well!) (more…)
