Jewelry Trends: What’s Right Now?

Earlier this week, I promised you an introduction to some of my friends who you absolutely need to know.  Today, the first introduction happens…

My friend Natalie loves fashion, though that isn’t how I met her.  Natalie and I worked together at a boutique energy consulting firm back in the day.  We hit it off the moment we met (although that might be because we were forced to sing a Brittney Spears song onstage together at a company meeting… but that’s a story for another day.)  She was always talking trends and making comments about what looks exceptionally good on people, etc.  (Don’t worry, she’s never snarky!)  Then, last year, Natalie quit the corporate life and started her own business. Natalie is an image consultant who helps people clear the clutter from their wardrobes, look great everyday, and project the best version of themselves.   (more…)

Friends You Need to Know

At the first parent-teacher conference of the year, my second grade teacher, Mrs. Hopkins, sat my mother down.  She looked thoughtfully at the papers on her desk and then looked my mother straight in the eye (she was an straight-shooter, this one) and very slowly said, “Andrea is an extremely social child.”  My mother looked right back at her, smiled and said, “Tell me something I don’t know.”  So, apparently, I’ve been this way for as long as anyone can remember.

I always kind of thought it was a family joke, since all kids are pretty friendly, but now that I have my own children and my first seems to have a personality that is eerily similar to mine, I have a new understanding of what they were saying.   (more…)

Happy Memorial Day!

Blog-1791

We want to wish you a very happy Memorial Day weekend.  I am enjoying some family and friends time in the sun and doing my best to relax and live in this gift of a moment.  I hope that you are able to do the same.  Wanted to share a few images from our fun weekend below!

Far more importantly, I’d like to take this opportunity to give a HUGE shout of thanks for those men and women who have fought for our freedom and provide for the security and liberty that we enjoy each and every day.  Many have paid the ultimate price for us to enjoy those luxuries and we are forever grateful for their sacrifice.  As the daughter of a Navy man and the proud aunt of a soldier who served three tours in Iraq, the cost of their service is not lost on me.  I am all too aware of the intense commitment they have made and am all the more grateful for their gift because of it. More Fun in the Wine Country (Mother’s Day, Part Two)

Blog-0378

Last week, I gave you all the details on our fun picnic in the wine country for Mother’s Day.  Today, I want to fill you in on the rest of our fabulously relaxing and fun day!

After our picnic at Rombauer, we drove over to Paraduxx, which is an adorable little winery on the Silverado Trail.  It is owned by the same couple that started Duckhorn Vineyards. Paraduxx has some really good wines and a really gorgeous outdoor backyard space in which to drink them.  They have several “living room” like stations with outdoor couches and coffee tables set up next to the vineyards and also some fun little tables on a porch and some grassy areas for letting the kids run.   (more…)

Something Old, Something New…

Last week, we shared with you some ideas from our friends over at Simply Bridal.  Today, I wanted to share with you what I did for this fun, age old tradition.

When I got married, my something old was a platinum and diamond Art Deco style pin that was my grandmother’s.  She was not living when I married, having passed away just a few years before, but she was definitely one of the most influential people in my life growing up.  She had style and spunk and always, and I mean ALWAYS had a glimmer in her eye that made you wonder just what she was thinking.  People used to comment on that little sparkle well into her 90’s.   (more…)

A Picnic in the Wine Country (Mother’s Day, Part I)

MDay2013-9802

One major perk of living in the Bay Area is that we can easily hop in the car and head to a really cool destination for the day.  When we return, it always feels like we’ve had a little mini vacation and it’s always so refreshing to get out of the city for a bit.  Sunday was one of those days…

This morning, we made some lattes at home and then piled in the car and drove up to the wine country.  It was cool but sunny in the city, but as we drove across the bridge, we could see “Karl” the fog rolling in.  We couldn’t even see the water, much less the iconic orange towers as we drove across the bridge, which is always such a crazy feeling (and our two year old was baffled and kept asking us where the bridge had gone – try explaining that!)  Just on the other side of the bridge, though, it was hot and sunny (another reason to get of the city once in a while!)  We drove up to St. Helena, which is one of our favorite little towns and went into Dean and Deluca to do our shopping. Hair Tutorial

We are absolutely thrilled that an Andrea Montgomery necklace is featured in this fun hair tutorial post.  The always-stylish Michaela Warner was asked to do a hair tutorial on her fabulous waterfall braid for Rue Magazine’s daily inspiration, Rue Daily, which you can see by clicking on that link.  Her hair and outfit are so lovely and she has inspired us to try something new with our hairstyling (which, let’s admit, has been a daily ponytail as of late!)  Also, we are loving the pop of green in her top.  Emerald is Pantone’s color of the year for 2013 and it has been everywhere this Spring, adding a fresh breath of life all over town! The Great Gatsby

SapphireDiamondNecklace-9601

I truly love doing custom work.  My very favorite part of this business is the design aspect and it is very often the part I spend the least time doing.  Administrative tasks like customer emails, ordering materials, accounting, filing taxes, shipping orders, etc. take up way more of my time than I would like.  Even though I have an incredible assistant, those things still dominate.  So, when someone calls me with a custom design order, I get really excited to let the creative juices flow… (more…)

Matching Jewelry to Your Wedding Dress

Let’s be honest.  Most of us wrestle with the age-old, “What should I wear?!” question more often than not.  Whether you are going to a cocktail party or hitting the gym, picking out outfits (and shopping for them!) takes some thought.  And your wedding is no exception.  When you’re planning your wedding, the bridal gown really does set the tone for the entire event.  And I would say that it doesn’t stop there.  The entire bridal ensemble is an important part of setting the tone – from your hair to your makeup, your gown to your shoes and everything in between.  And bridal jewelry is no exception!  Today, we have some wise words from a bridal gown expert on how to best match jewelry to your wedding dress.  It’s not always an easy task, but it is one that is well worth the effort, because jewelry can absolutely make the outfit.  So, here are some thoughts and lovely photos from our friends over at Simply Bridal(more…)

Rodeo Drive

RodeoDrive-8431

This afternoon, we spent some time walking up and down Rodeo Drive on a lovely, sunshine-filled day.  I was absolutely overwhelmed by the architecture and the design and the window displays.  It was literally almost too much to take in.  The beautiful flowers and the interesting buildings and materials used and of course, the goods.  We didn’t even walk into too many stores, since we had the two littles with us, but it was still a lot to take in and was such a nice outing!
