Houston-based stylist Natalie Weakly knows trends. In fact, she makes it her business to know them. And even better, to help you know them – and how they best work for you. You may remember her from our “Friend Friday” post about her. Natalie loves clothes and jewelry (especially ours – she’s got great taste, right?) but what she’s passionate about is helping you find the clothes and jewelry that work for your look and lifestyle. A self-proclaimed “color obsessed” gal, she has expert opinions on what colors look great – from your closet to your logo to your living room walls.
Today, we took the boys to the Houston Museum of Natural Science. Usually, when we go to the museum we hit the dinosaur exhibit. (Like, Every. Single. Time.) We have a membership (which is totally worth it, by the way!) so we go quite a bit. When we go, our boys beg for dinosaurs. Today, however, we convinced them to check out the butterfly exhibit. The Cockrell Butterfly Center is amazing! The plants are stunning, the butterflies are beautiful and although it is quite warm and humid in there, it’s totally worth it. (more…)

Yesterday, we finally fulfilled our promise to our boys to take them to the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo. Bean has been dying to go since Go Texan Day and since a “real cowboy” visited his preschool. Both of the boys looked absolutely precious in their jeans and boots and Bean looked extra cute in his hat.
First, we stopped by the Mutton Bustin’ tent. I seriously love this “sport.” It’s so cute. Little kids (around five years old) come out riding a sheep and try and hold on for eight seconds, like the bull riders do. It is absolutely adorable. One kid we saw absolutely would not let go. That sweet boy held on to the side of that sheep as it ran for so long – it was really impressive. What a little rock star! (more…)
We are in the middle of rodeo season here in Houston and it has been so fun to see the fashion that goes with this fun time of year. Today’s post is the third in our series of rodeo fashion posts. There are so many ways to make your outfit cowgirl chic with just a few pieces of jewelry added to your outfit. You can add a pair of statement earrings, or embrace the layering trend with some dainty necklaces that work well together. Or, you can go with a statement necklace, which is what we’re talking about today. (more…)
It’s almost Rodeo Time and I couldn’t be more excited! Having lived in California for the past five years, I’ve missed out on this grand Houston tradition for quite some time now and I’m thrilled to be back for it and to show my little guys the fun Texas heritage that the rodeo represents. Of course, if you’re heading to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, this is the time to plan your outfit. It’s time to break out your boots and hat! (Because no, we don’t all wear them year-round. Well, not the hats anyway.) (more…)
Well, it’s almost here. Rodeo is just about everyone’s favorite time in Houston. For nearly a month each year, Houston takes on the persona that the rest of the country assumes about Texas most of the time. Having grown up here, I assure you that I’ve been asked more than once when traveling whether or not I own an oil derrick or rode a horse to school. Thank you, Dallas. (The TV show, not the city.) Once, while traveling in Indonesia, someone even asked me if I knew J.R. Ewing. (I didn’t.) But, once a year, the fourth largest city in the U.S. goes back to its Texas roots – and its a LOT of fun! If you don’t know my friend Natalie Weakly, you should. She’s an image and brand consultant and she loves making people look good. Natalie is often a featured guest on Great Day Houston, giving Houstonians tips on all kinds of fashion solutions. (You may remember her recent segment on scarf styling I featured on the blog.) Natalie is also pregnant (and due just 10 days before me – how fun is that?!) so it makes sense that they asked her to do a segment on maternity fashion. And when she needed “models” I was thrilled to do it. It wasn’t my first debut on a television news segment, but it was just as fun as the first time! (more…)

We had so much fun at Langford Market’s West Ave flagship location today! They girls who work in there are absolutely adorable and are so, so sweet and helpful. You should definitely stop in and check the place out. The decor and ambiance in the store offer a lovely aesthetic in which to shop and the clothes are really well-priced and offer on-trend colors and styles. Their jewelry isn’t at all my style, but their clothes are really cute! And maybe that’s why they asked me to come in and do a trunk show – to offer a slightly more dainty option. The customers were all very kind and excited to try on a more dainty look and find some things to layer with items they already had. A win-win! (more…)
