Our 2011 Pink Ribbon Necklace was featured today online at the Houston Chronicle’s website here. The article focused on “pink” items that really do make an impact. It cited a recent Marie Claire article about the trend among retailers in selling breast cancer awareness items and encouraged readers to buy from designers who disclose the amount of the proceeds that actually go to the charity. We are honored to have been included among the designers they recommend for people who want to “Think pink, but buy smart.” And we’re the very first item in the slideshow – so fun!

On Friday night, we went out to dinner with some friends in town from Texas. We went to Flour + Water in the Mission, which both of us had been wanting to try. It was FANTASTIC! I wasn’t totally sure what the whole flour and water deal was about, but I quickly learned it refers to the ingredients for pasta, for which the restaurant is known. They had an entire tasting menu dedicated just to pastas and had a ton of fabulous pasta choices on the menu. When I first looked over the menu, I was a little put off by how many ingredients listed were completely foreign to me. (Don’t you just hate it when restaurants use ridiculous words for something totally normal, just to look cool?) With a little explanation from our very knowledgeable waitress, however, I could see that they weren’t being pretentious at all. They just really like to use unique ingredients – and they do so with great success! We ended up getting a few appetizers (including pig’s feet, which was surprisingly yummy!), a few pasta dishes and one of their incredible thin crust pizzas and for dessert, the INCREDIBLE chocolate budino with espresso caramel cream and sea salt – YUM. Every single thing I ate was delicious. Check them out at Flour + Water and then stop by for a bite. You won’t be sorry!

Introducing our Pink Ribbon Necklace for 2011…
Each year for the past nine years, I have designed a piece that will be sold to raise money for the fight against breast cancer. For the past several years, proceeds from the designs have benefitted the Stehlin Foundation for Cancer Research, which is an incredible organization located in Houston that is making amazing strides in the battle against cancer. I was invited to do an interview on Austin’s KEYE news just after I touched down on my whirlwind Austin trip and had such a great time chatting with Jason Wheeler there. He did a segment on Andrea Montgomery Designs since we’ll be presenting at Austin Fashion Week tonight. The entire team at KEYE was so nice and they made it such a fun experience! (And of course the ladies there wanted to shop the jewelry afterwards, which is always fun.) It was my first time on live television and it was an absolute blast. Check out the video here or by clicking on the image above. Time to go setup for tonight’s event!
Go Green! Check us out in this month’s issue of Real Simple magazine. They featured our gold vermeil lotus hoops with green leaf drops on page 77. We are loving green accents this Summer and are sure the trend will continue into Fall – it’s too pretty not to! These sharp earrings add a pop of color to any ensemble and you can pick them up on our website here. Plus, you can always add gem drops in other colors later, making these earrings super versatile! Andrea Montgomery was mentioned in the Houston Chronicle today as one of the vendors that columnist Lindsey Love enjoyed shopping with at the Candlelighters Luncheon. We definitely had fun meeting her – what a knockout she is and her style is just impeccable! The event was wonderful, as always, and we were so honored to be a part of it!
