Today, I join a group no one wants to be a part of. Women who leave the hospital where they gave birth with empty arms. For many, they won’t be coming back for their little ones and that is a special heartbreak I cannot imagine. For others of us, we leave our newborns in very capable hands in the NICU, and for that we are very grateful. But, to pretend that it doesn’t feel like our hearts are being ripped from our very chests as we do it, would be a lie. To pretend that there isn’t deep disappointment in letting go of the way we had hoped things would be would actually be a disservice to us and our babies and the strong women who have walked before us in that pain. Many of those women are dear friends who have reached out to me to offer encouragement and for that, I’m so, so grateful. We are blessed with an amazing village of people around us - like the sweet friends who sent us these gorgeous flowers and the ones who dropped off dinner and a bottle of Rosé to the hospital - how fun are they?!
